Avon Fire and Rescue

Our History

The band has been in existence under several different names since 1954. Originally the band was named The Bristol Fire Brigade Brass Band. However, changes in instrumentation, musical styles and local government over the years have led to the current name and concert wind band formation, which includes woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.

2004 saw the 50th anniversary of the band and this was celebrated over a weekend in Bournemouth when the band performed two public concerts and a civilised amount of celebratory eating and drinking.

For many years the band rehearsed at the central fire station in Bristol, but in 1998 moved to the fire service's central control site at Lansdown.
Our rehearsal room, library and instrument store is now within a converted nuclear bunker. We are possibly the only band that can claim such unique facilities.
